actually, what i really love is pure mathematics, very much in the spirit of g.h. hardy: useless, but beautiful.

what you find here is less about pure mathematics and more about computational mathematics. you could also simply call it number crunching. for that you basically don't need much more than a lot of cpu power and a start button.

but of course it is not quite that simple either. for my contributions to GIMPS, at first more organizational than mathematical talent was needed. and, of course, a very cooperative employer.

with admissible prime patterns things are quite different. over the years i gradually refined my algorithms and built up a rather large collection of more than 120 million optimal admissible prime sets. with the arrival of ai, i then managed to make the next big step.
